Summer Infant BestView Handheld Colour Video MonitorWe tried three other so called top brand name baby video monitors before buying the Summer Infant BestView Handheld Colour Video Monitor. This one is by far the best and they were all pretty expensive. Two of the others you could buy extra cameras for (yet more expense) but this one you don’t need to as the aspect ratio of the camera allows you to see the whole room with the one camera. As the baby has got older (up to nine months) the baby video camera has become more and more a necessity to us as he is prone to sticking a leg through the bars of his cot and getting stuck..

We can even get reception from the bottom of our garden which is pretty impressive. The picture does get a little more grainy the further away you get from the camera but it’s no worse than any of the others we have tried. One thing to not is that even during the day if the light in the room is low the picture reverts to black and white which is probably built in to protect the picture quality which is really very good.

The unit is pretty well built and quite nice to look at and the system is quite easy to use and has a good range and the pan and tilt function offered on this model really does work well.

fisher price baby monitorThis Fisher Price baby monitor is very reliable and we are very happy with it. We read some positive reviews elsewhere are this is what prompted us to buy the Fisher Price. The picture quality is fine although it’s in black and white in night mode, but then aren’t they all?

Overall we would say this Video Baby Monitor is very good value for money and probably would have given it an even more glowing review but for the battery life being quite poor to be honest. Even after a full days charge whilst we were out and about it will only give about two hours service before dying.

Make sure if you are relying on this unit you have it running from the mains.

Digital Wireless Video Baby Monitor (Rechargeable) by First Alert We previously bought two (other make) baby video monitors and neither worked properly. I don’t know whether they were faulty or just not very good. Anyway we were determined that this was a necessity for our baby son so we bought the Digital Wireless Video Baby Monitor (Rechargeable) by First Alert. We are glad we bought this one and so far it’s doing a fine job.

The audio and video are both very clear in both day and night mode (black and white). We found that you can in fact turn off the video by pressing a button on the side of the monitor and it will work in just audio mode until the baby makes a noise when the monitor will switch itself back on. If all goes quiet then it will switch itself off again after about 30 seconds.

Most of the time though we leave the video on as basically I think that’s the whole point of the digital baby monitor. Anyway it’s a very good product and highly recommended.

Summer Infant Day & Night Flat Screen Color Video Monitor with 7" LCD Screen

We are extremely pleased with the monitor. It is much better than we expected it to be. You might find the odd place in your home where the reception isn’t as good as you’d like but if you just move it a little sometimes you can get a decent picture just about anywhere. We actually use tape to secure the camera as it saves having to use screws and damage the crib..

There is some interference with the wireless phone we have but most of the time you’re not on the phone so its fine 95% of the time. We have two little girls and we found we can have the camera up to 10 feet away from our babies for a wider picture and the quality is unaffected. This will be very handy as the babies grow and start to move around more.

Apart from the slight interference problem when using the phone overall this baby video monitor works very well and we are glad we purchased this particular monitor.

NScessity: Digital 1.8" LCD Wireless Camera MonitorThis is a very good system. I found it very easy to set up and use. There havevn’t been any problems with interference although our house must have more wireless signals in it than Vodafone’s head office. The sleep mode is very good indeed because it allows the camera to “sleep” whilst all is quiet but then activate itself if the baby makes a noise.

The design of the monitor and camera is modern and clean and the only possible fault I could find with it was that it could have a slightly bigger screen. The picture quality was very good but just a bit on the small side. On the whole yes we have already recommended this to friends and they have bought it as well and are also very happy with it.

philips 2.5 baby video monitor

click image to buy in UK

I must confess I wasn’t over impressed with the thought of a Philips Baby Monitor. We haven’t had much luck over the years with their stuff, but I’ve got to tell you this thing is Brilliant! Even though we haven’t had the baby yet we have been playing around with the baby monitor and the sound is always crystal clear even with wifi and a wireless phone in the same room.

This baby monitor even has a lullaby feature as well as a night light so economically it really makes sense too and with a room temperature alarm it makes you think you really have everything covered. There is an intercom system built into this and I have to admit I am always misplacing stuff around the house so the fact that it has a built in pager is good news for me. There is even a warning system built into the monitor part should the camera become unplugged for any reason.

All in all it’s a very solid piece of kit and the battery life is brilliant! My husband and I thoroughly recommend this baby video monitor! One small thing to consider, if you live in a stone house then you may want to give this a miss and try out another. It will not transmit through stone unless you have all the doors open and that rather defeats the point of a digital baby monitor.

Initially, we had thought a video monitor would not be necessary – until the actual day came when it was time to move our son to her crib in her own room! The first monitor we tried was the Baby’s Quite Sounds miniature Black & White TV monitor (this is also by summer Infant products) that we usually kept by the bed side on the night stand – reception was ok but the large screen cast so much light when you were trying to sleep, that you had to turn the video off and only turn it on when the baby woke.

Having the hand held monitor is a much better solution! We can take it anywhere in the house and the reception is superb (although it does clash a bit while on the cordless phone which is also 900 mHz). We also have a wireless system in our home and we can use the video baby monitor simultaneously without interference to either. Additionally important to note is that I have been able to use this video monitor in combination with the BeBe Sounds Anglecare Sensory Monitor (for SIDS prevention) without any difficulty or conflict between them.

The Angelcare Sensory Monitor is also very efficient if you are considering a SIDS monitor as well! One slight draw back is that at night the video monitor sometimes wakes me up due to static (however, this is down to where you place the monitor, and can usually be adjusted for better reception if there’s a problem).

This monitor has two models with the only difference being the screen size. My model, #02100 has a 2″x2″ color TFT screen or 2.8″ diagonally, and the other model (#02090) has a smaller 1.8″ color TFT screen. You can also purchase an additional camera (for $99.99, model # 02100-01) to view another baby or room on the other channel if you need to. The additional camera is listed under “features” for model number 02100 only; however, the customer service rep. had said that the screen size was the only difference between the two handheld models, so it would probably work for both models.
